Build me a live job-search tracker artifact I can re-open anytime and refresh to pull in new postings. Here’s what I need.

About me (my search profile)

  • Target roles: Economist roles across four tracks — (1) tenure-track Assistant Professor in economics / public policy at research universities and liberal arts colleges; (2) research economist at institutes and think tanks (RAND, Urban Institute, Mathematica, NBER, IZA, Federal Reserve research); (3) government / policy research economist roles (federal agencies, CBO, Treasury, state); (4) industry / tech economist (tech, consulting, finance). Primary strength is applied microeconomics — labor, health, and education economics using causal inference, field experiments, and administrative data.
  • Level: Entry-level tenure-track / early-career research economist is realistic (PhD 2023, currently a postdoc). Senior/lead economist or associate-professor-level posts are a reach.
  • Location: Prefer Philadelphia and remote/hybrid roles, but open to relocating anywhere in the US for a great role.
  • Compensation floor: ~$110k+ (skip the filter for academic posts, which rarely list salary).
  • Must-haves / dealbreakers: Research-active role with time/support for publishing; applied micro / policy fit. No hard visa constraint.
  • What makes a role a strong fit for me: Research autonomy and time to publish; alignment with my fields (labor, health, education, discrimination/identity, program evaluation); access to good administrative/experimental data; supportive colleagues and mentorship; policy impact and mission fit.

Sources to check

Track these and check them on each refresh:

  • Field job boards (auto-readable where possible):
    • EconJobMarket — https://econjobmarket.org/positions
    • AEA JOE Listings — https://www.aeaweb.org/joe/listings
    • INOMICS — https://inomics.com/jobs
    • IZA Job Market / IZA World of Labor — https://www.iza.org/jobs
    • LinkedIn (economist / research economist / policy) — flag as manual check needed (login-gated)
  • Government / policy:
    • USAJOBS, Economist series 0110 — https://www.usajobs.gov/Search/Results/?j=0110
    • Federal Reserve System careers — https://www.federalreserve.gov/careers.htm
  • Think tanks / research institutes career pages (many JavaScript-rendered — flag as manual check needed with link):
    • RAND — https://www.rand.org/jobs.html
    • Urban Institute — https://urban.org/aboutus/employment-opportunities
    • Mathematica — https://www.mathematica.org/career-opportunities
    • NBER — https://www.nber.org/careers
  • Higher-ed boards:
    • HigherEdJobs (economics) — https://www.higheredjobs.com
    • Chronicle Vitae — https://chroniclevitae.com
  • Communities / newsletters: #EconTwitter / #EconJobMarket postings; IZA and NBER announcement lists.

For each source, verify listings that are still live, close ones that have disappeared, and add new relevant postings. If a source can’t be read automatically (many career portals are JavaScript-rendered or login-gated), just note it as “manual check needed” with a link, rather than dropping it.

How the tracker should work

  • Show roles in a sortable, filterable table: institution/company, title (linked to the posting), team/dept, location, salary, application materials needed, date posted, deadline, a short notes field, and my application status.
  • Let me rate each role’s fit (strong / medium / stretch) and filter by fit or by saved/starred.
  • Let me mark application status (saved, applied, interviewing, offer, rejected) and keep applied roles visible even after the posting closes.
  • Group roles into buckets that match my search: Academic (tenure-track), Research institutes / think tanks, Government / policy, and Industry / tech economist.
  • Keep every note to one short line: a fit symbol, a one-line rationale, and a status/date marker. Trim anything that gets verbose.
  • Header should show: last-updated date, a count of open roles tracked and how many are new today, and the next couple of upcoming deadlines.

Application materials I typically need

Track which each posting requires: CV, cover letter, job market paper, research statement, teaching statement, diversity statement, and letters of reference. (My CV, research, teaching, and diversity statements are already prepared and linked on my website.)

Refresh behavior

  • Add a “Refresh” button and set up a scheduled task so it re-checks sources automatically every weekday morning.
  • On each run: update dates, close dead listings, add new relevant ones, and give me a short summary of what changed (added / closed / couldn’t verify).

Keep the whole thing self-contained and clean.
